You Need God Because of What Jesus has done

So in light of who God is and our sin against Him, we need someone who is fully human and fully God. The person needs to be fully human to rightfully represent and stand in our place of punishment. The person, at the same time, needs to be fully God to be able to pay in full the eternal punishment that we deserve. This God-Man person can only be the person of Jesus Christ, who came from heaven, lived a sinless life, died on the cross for sinners, and rose again on the third day. He is the only One in all of human history who has ever, and ever will, fit these requirements to be the Savior.

God the Son, Jesus, the God-Man came from heaven to earth to live the life that we should have lived, and die the death that we deserve because of our sin.

2 Corinthians 5:21 says that “[God] made [Jesus] who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.”

For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.
— John 3:16

Romans 5:6-8 says “For while we were still helpless, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. For one will hardly die for a righteous man; though perhaps for the good man someone would dare even to die. But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”

For all those who would trust and count as a treasure the Lord Jesus and what He has done, His perfect, sinless life is placed upon us into our spiritual account, as it were, and our sinfulness and our sin, past, present, and future are placed upon the Lord Jesus. His death on the cross is a substitute for the punishment we deserve. On the cross, the Lord Jesus suffered all the countless eternal punishments for our sin and sinfulness that we deserve. Before He died, the Lord Jesus cried out loudly, “It is Finished!” making a promise to all who believe that their sins were paid in full.

Then Jesus died, was buried, and three days later He rose again. Jesus’ resurrection from the dead gave proof positive that His suffering the penalty of sin and His death were enough to pay in full for the sin of all those who would believe.
