You Need God Because of Who God Is

God is the Creator of everything and everyone. In the Bible, Genesis 1:1 says “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” God describes Himself as Creator of everything in Isaiah 42:5-6.

Thus says God the LORD, who created the heavens and stretched them out, who spread out the earth and its offspring, who gives breath to the people on it, and spirit to those who walk in it, “I am the LORD…”
— Isaiah 42:5-6

Since God is the Creator, He therefore has the right of ownership and authority over everything and everyone He has created.  Psalm 24 verse 1 and 2 says “The earth is the Lord’s, and all it contains, the world, and those who dwell in it. For He has founded it upon the seas and established it upon the rivers.”

Because God created all things, He therefore owns and has absolute right of determination and control over all He has created and sustains.

This is very much like the relationship of clay on the potter’s wheel to the potter. As the potter spins the clay and shapes, forms, and creates a vessel. The neck is made how the potter wants. The handle is shaped in the way that the potter desires. Whatever the potter chooses and wills for the clay is totally in the potter’s right and authority to do so, because he is the owns the vessel.

God not only created all things but He also sustains all things now. Acts 17:24-28 says, “The God who made the world and all things in it, since He is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands; nor is He served by human hands, as though He needed anything, since He Himself gives to all people life and breath and all things;

and He made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined their appointed times and the boundaries of their habitation, that they would seek God, if perhaps they might grope for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us; for in Him we live and move and exist.”

So since God created you and sustains you, you need Him. You may not realize that you need Him or recognize how dependent you are upon Him but you need God to exist, live and breathe. You need God.
